A Musical Journey

Britney Shanea Baskett, born September 19, 1990, is a freshly new up and ⁸coming Inspirational and Motivational Recording Artist. She is a force to be reckoned with by her many gifts and talents. She began singing at the tender age of six years old, in the choir of her childhood church in Durham, N.C. where she was born and raised. As her love for music continued to grow, she found herself being a part of numerous music programs, choirs, and singing opportunities during her Elementary and Middle School years. While in the 6th grade at the age of 11, God blessed her with the unexpected gift to play the Violin. She gained the knowledge to read music, as well as play by ear. Britney Baskett was accepted into Durham School of the Arts of Durham, N.C. where her love for music, and God, grew even stronger. She continued to sing with numerous choirs, took music classes, and began taking voice lessons to perfect her craft. There she was classically trained with the gift to sing Opera, as well as Gospel and other genres. She took piano classes, Music Theory, and continued to play in the String Orchestra. Over the course of these years, Britney dealt with low self-esteem, low confidence, and struggled with self love. She began to draw closer to God and made the life changing decision that she wanted to be Saved. During her Freshman year of High School, Britney began attending New Destiny Christian Fellowship of Cary, N.C, who would later change their name to New Dimensions Fellowship Church of Durham, N.C. where she was also instrumental in the choir, praise team, and leadership roles. On January 15, 2006, Britney officially joined New Dimensions Fellowship Church and was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. It was then that Britney decided to take all of the negative emotions, and turn it into something positive. Britney Baskett began to channel her emotions by writing songs. Singing on stage inspired her to pursue acting and she began taking acting courses. With her "dare to be different" personality and new found confidence, she became highly interested in Fashion and Modeling. Britney would participate in fashion shows at her school, as well as the church she attended. She promotes body positivity, class, self awareness, confidence, self love, and viewing yourself the way that God sees you. God then gave Britney a vision to ignite her brand, titled "B~YOUniq". Britney graduated with Honors from Durham School of the Arts in May 2008. Eager to learn more, Britney furthered her education at the oldest HBCU in the South, Shaw University where she majored in music, and minored in business. Still facing adversity, she continued to use her gifts immensely during her collegiate years. She was honored with awards that catapulted her position as an artist in the making. Her success, hard work, and dedication lead to Britney graduating from Shaw University in May 2012, with a Bachelor of Arts with honors, being the highest in her department major with a 3.7GPA . After her college years, Britney became more serious about her craft and embarked upon many successful endeavors. She has been blessed to share the stage with Gospel legend Yolanda Adams during the Yolanda Adam's Morning show. She has also shared the stage with Gospel Icon Kierra Sheard-Kelly, and the Queen of Gospel, Shirley Caesar. Britney was honored to make an appearance in the music video of Gospel Artist Miranda Curtis' hit song," I'm All In". She branched out into acting and was casted a small role in two independent films; "Feminine The Movie" written and directed by Taileah Breon, and the Movie "Kesler". Britney has been chosen to model for several Black owned businesses, and walked the runway for the Spring and Fall collections of the popular plus size super store, "Avenue". Elevating her online presence, she has become a Social Media Influencer, creating original positive and encouraging content using music, comedy, spirituality,  life lessons, photography, and Zumba to inspire and motivate others. Singing was always Britney's first love. She was obedient to God's voice and took the leap of faith to launch out. At age 31, she received confirmation for the release of her first critically acclaimed piece of work. On August 19, 2022, she released her highly anticipated debut single titled "I Want Everything". Some of her influences include Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Beyonce, Raven Symone, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Mary Mary, Denise Graves, and Tori Kelly.  Britney has overcome countless obstacles on the way up, and continues to work hard each and every day to keep her musical journey moving forward. Britney truly believes that you should be yourself and be unique, as implemented by her brand. She encourages others to live life to the fullest and embrace all that God desires for you to be. She continues to live life out loud, allowing God to lead her and guide her in the right direction. She remains humble and on fire for God, excited to continue to share her journey with the world.
